Wills

Not making a will can be disastrous. Children and loved ones could be made vulnerable, property and other valuables go to the wrong people and a significant proportion of your life’s earnings could be paid over to the Chancellor rather than go to the family.

Yet astonishingly, more than 70% of the population has not made a will!

A will is for everyone and not just the elderly. No adult is too young to make a will. It is as important for a young unmarried couple buying their first property as it is for young parents with their first child. A will does far more than dictate who will inherit your money. It can specify whether burial or cremation is preferred, nominate executors to oversee the division and allocation of your wealth after your death and even make provision for your choice of guardian to care for your children. Perhaps the most persuasive reason for making a will is the potential to prevent hard earned money that rightly belongs to you from being absorbed in taxes.

Wills and Trusts

Life is an ever changing process. As such wills should be reviewed on a regular basis as inevitably events such as divorce, separation, moving house and having children can change everything.

The wills trusts and estates team at Thatcher & Hallam LLP has unrivalled experience of wills, efficient tax planning and wealth protection. With the benefit of their help you can ensure that there is no misconception of your wishes – your will, is your will! and any inheritance tax liability is at worst limited and possibly even avoided.
